If you are looking to make a difference in your house but do not have the money to pay for an interior designer, you can remodel your home by yourself simply and without costing you thousands of dollars.  Below you will find three tips on remodeling that ugly room the prize room in your house.

Flat walls are boring walls.  The first tip that we are going to offer you is to change the texture of the walls.  How does one change the texture? Simply with dry wall techniques.  With these techniques, you can change the appearance of ceilings and walls as well adding new little touches to this room.  All you need is some join compound to make these dry wall techniques become a dream come true.  One fun, new technique that is hot right now it the orange peel finish.  Of course the orange peel finish does not mean to paint your walls and then spread oranges across them.  No, the orange peel finish is created by actually spraying the texture compound on the a smooth wall in your home.  Then let the compound dry.  It is always advisable to let it sit for twenty four hours and then to paint over the compound once it is dry.

The next step in remodeling this room is to use faux painting.  Faux painting includes a variety of techniques which include glazing, sponging, ragging and freehand or stenciled designs.  These techniques work great on smooth surfaces but are dynamic on textured walls.  Since we just orange peeled the walls to your room, adding one of these glorious techniques would work smashingly.  One popular design technique is the suede finish.  Many people like to use this technique in the classy areas of their homes like in an office or library.  All you have to do is use a textured paint which contains silica to make the walls appear to be covered in suede.

The next option would be to use a non traditional wall covering.  Wall paper has officially been outdated.  People are more into rooms with a theme and making those themes come alive.  Designers are using faux grass to make a Hawaiian getaway or even fabric to give the room a vibrant feel and wonderfully soft texture.  There are various non traditional covering options which include foil, cork and paper backed fabric.

The greatest part about these room transformation techniques is that you can mix and match them.  You can make a room appear to be a stone wall that appears to have the texture of suede while along the border of the room there is grass and flowers growing from the floor.  These are three fun and innovative techniques to help you remodel your favorite (or least favorite) room!
