Firsts Steps to Big Bathroom Improvements

The joy of home ownership is realized when the realtor’s keys first open the front door and you step inside your new house with the realization that it is yours, to have and to hold, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, during hail or sunshine, flood or earthquake, and so forth.  Of course, on the heels of this high feeling comes the sudden realization that the buck stops with you: if the toilet is plugged up it is up to you to fix it, and if the roof leaks there is no landlord to call but only a roofer - on your buck.

Of course, another perk of homeownership is the fact that you may recreate the home in your own image.  You can change paint schemes wallpapering, fixtures, and tiles any time you wish.  Nobody can tell you what to do inside your home.  It is no surprise then that homeowners have taken to remodeling their homes and are packing the local big box home improvement stores.  One of the first projects usually taken on is the task of remodeling a bathroom.  Perhaps it is the ease with which a relatively minor number of steps can have a huge, tangible result.  Perhaps it is the lure of adding to the home’s value by modernizing the bathroom.  On the other hand, maybe it could just be that the prior owner’s color schemes are nothing short of awful and the only way to make the room presentable is via a complete remodel.

Remodeling a bathroom is not for the feint of heart!  If using professionals to do the work for you, you will most certainly be surprised by the number of workers from different professions you will need to employ to affect a total change.  The electrician will take care of the lights and outlets, while the plumber will refit the piping and get a new toilet, sink, and tub or shower to go into place.  A cabinet maker can craft custom cabinets to store linens and other items you wish to keep in the bathroom, while a painter can add a beautiful splash of color.  A general contractor might be asked to add tiles and also install a floor that will make the newly redone room shine.  Obviously, remodeling a bathroom is not a one step process.

Hopefully though the number of specialists it would take to oversee the whole remodeling project will not scare you away.  Considering that a new tub, sink and toilet will completely change the room’s appearance, a living room makeover would entail spending thousands of dollars on new furniture, window dressings, etc. While a bathroom remodel thus may seem like a looming task, the individual jobs are usually somewhat small (with the exception of the plumber’s task, of course), and remodeling a bathroom will change the complete feel of a home drastically.  The only other room that can affect a similar change to a home’s ambience is the kitchen!
