When you don’t have the financial resources available to
completely fulfill your home renovation dreams, that doesn’t mean you should
just give up. Even though you might not be able to completely redo your
bathroom or get those granite countertops, there are still ways that you can
revitalize your home on a tighter budget. Finding ways to renew and refresh
your home with minor renovations from time to time is a great way to keep your
house feeling current.
So what are some of these budget ideas? Well, the first and
most straight forward is simply this: don’t be afraid of paint. Painting things
is the most non intrusive, non labor intensive, and cost effective way to give
your house a completely new look. Try to
think about paint in new ways. The painting out of old wood floors is becoming
very popular and can give you quite an updated look at a fraction of the cost
that redoing that entire floor would cost.
Painting can be used interior or exterior as a cost effective way to
change your house.
What about the kitchen? Most of the renovations in the
kitchens cost a lot of money. Replacing appliances is a huge cost and the often
sought after granite counter tops can get extremely expensive. Instead, think
about smaller touches. The cabinets would also be expensive to replace, but
what about switching out the hardware on them? Or even the door fronts
themselves could be altered, painted or swapped out to change the look of the
kitchen at a fraction of the cost. Also, don’t be afraid to looking into
non-granite alternatives if you really want a new countertop. There are tile
options out there that are extremely attractive and affordable.
What about tackling the bathroom on a budget? First of all,
don’t move ANYTHING. As soon as you get into moving anything connected to
plumbing you are looking at major costs. However, it might be fairly cost
effective to just replace the vanity and toilet to really perk up the bathroom.
Or if even that is out of your range, changing all the hardware and taps in the
bathroom, (along with giving it a good scrub) can really surprisingly make it
look like an entirely new room. Also, as mentioned before, don’t be afraid of
paint. All it can do is make something look newer and better.
Just because you don’t have a lot of money and aren’t
willing to take out a loan doesn’t mean you shouldn’t benefit from some minor
renovations to your home. Simply find out where you need change the most, and
find the most cost effective way to bring your house up to date.
